Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Saturday accused the BJP-led Union government of plotting to amend the Constitution. He called it a direct attack on India’s democratic foundations.
Marking Quit India Day at Gandhi Bhavan, Goud hoisted the party flag. He also presented a PowerPoint prepared by senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on the Election Commission. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Jupally Krishna Rao, former MP V. Hanumantha Rao and several Congress leaders joined the event.
BJP turning Election Commission into party arm
Goud extended Raksha Bandhan greetings. He urged youth to learn the history of the freedom struggle. The 1942 Quit India movement, he said, was Mahatma Gandhi’s defining call to end British rule with the slogan “Do or Die.” He accused the BJP and RSS of trying to erase the legacy of leaders like Nehru, Patel and Bose. He charged that they were using independent institutions to target the Opposition through planned attacks.
Goud claimed the Election Commission was acting like a frontal unit of the BJP. He criticised the Modi government for branding dissenters as traitors. He declared “Quit BJP” as essential for the nation’s future. According to him, the ruling party was dividing citizens along caste and religious lines, taking away hope. He said no BJP or RSS leader had taken part in the freedom struggle. The Congress, he stressed, had fought for independence and still worked to protect it.
