Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao accused the Centre of giving Parliament false data on urea supply to Telangana. He said this has confused farmers and worsened the ongoing shortage.
The Centre, according to him, claimed 20.20 lakh metric tonnes of urea were available in the state. In reality, the allocation for the 2025 Kharif season stood at only 9.80 lakh tonnes.
In a fresh letter to Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Anupriya Patel, Tummala cited the actual figures and highlighted the supply gap. Telangana, he said, hadn’t received even the sanctioned quantity.
From April to July, the state was due to receive 6.60 lakh tonnes. Only 4.36 lakh tonnes were delivered. That shortfall, he added, is also impacting Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had already raised the issue with Union Minister JP Nadda. Tummala urged quick corrective action.
He warned that inaccurate statements in Parliament damage state-level planning and erode farmer trust. The Centre, he insisted, must immediately dispatch the pending 2.24 lakh tonnes due for August.
