Tummala blames Centre, slams BRS protests over urea shortage

Hyderabad: State agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Friday criticised the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for staging protests over the urea shortage, calling the agitation a “hypocritical drama.”

“Is the state government responsible for the shortage or is it the Central government?” he asked, reminding BRS leaders that urea allocation lies with the Centre. “During your ten years in power, didn’t you know this fact?” he remarked.

Tummala alleged that the BRS was indulging in “deprived politics” to discredit the Congress government and provoke farmers. He asserted that Telangana had faced no urea shortage during the past three crop seasons under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. “If there is a problem now due to the Centre’s negligence, why curse the Chief Minister?” he said.

He claimed that the state secured fresh allocations only after Congress MPs staged protests in Parliament. Farmers, he argued, understood the reality and would not fall for BRS theatrics.

The minister also pointed out that even Union Minister Kishan Reddy and BJP MP Raghunandan Rao admitted the shortage was a nationwide issue. “No other state CM raised the matter, but Revanth Reddy not only wrote to the Centre but also held talks with Union Ministers and mounted pressure. It was only due to our efforts that Telangana received some allocation,” he said.
