HYDERABAD: A strong appeal has been made for the establishment of a dedicated development corporation for the upliftment of the Turkakasha and Pattarpod Muslim communities, traditionally known for their stone-breaking labour. SK Kareem, a state member of the Turkakasha Sangham, raised this demand during a meeting held on Wednesday at the Haj House in Hyderabad.
The delegation met with Mohammed Obeidullah Kotwal, Chairman of the Telangana State Minority Finance Corporation, and MLC Ameer Ali Khan under the leadership of the association’s state president SK Badesaab.
“Hard labour, harsh lives,” says SK Kareem
Highlighting the plight of Turkakasha workers, Kareem explained that these families endure extreme heat while breaking stones to earn a livelihood. Many suffer injuries, including broken hands and legs, as a result of the physically demanding nature of their work.
He emphasised that the burden of supporting families through such harsh labour has become increasingly difficult and urged that justice be done to these neglected communities.
Appeal for structural support
The association demanded the formation of a special corporation under the state government to specifically address the socio-economic development of Turkakasha and Pattarpod Muslims. They believe such a body could provide focused welfare schemes, financial aid, and support mechanisms tailored to their needs.
District and mandal-level leaders from the community also participated in the meeting, lending weight to the call for urgent and structured state support.
