Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao said the Telangana government must hold elections only after granting 42% reservations to Backward Classes (BCs). “Even if the elections happen tomorrow, they should wait until BCs get 42% reservations,” he told reporters on Thursday.
He urged people to support the bandh called by BC associations on October 18. The protest aims to secure 42% reservations in local body elections. Rao appealed to all sections of society to stand with BC organisations and strengthen the movement.
V. Hanumantha Rao demands 42% BC reservations before Telangana elections
Rao asked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to begin talks with all political parties on the issue. He said the state must make a strong and clear decision that can serve as an example for other states. According to him, the Telangana government acted with honesty on the BC reservation demand.
The Congress leader also called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to act on the BC Reservation Bill. “Modi calls himself an OBC. Then why is he not approving the BC Bill?” he questioned. Rao said this is the right moment to pass the 42% BC reservation bill. He urged traders and various groups to support the upcoming bandh.
