HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy inaugurated a women-run petrol bunk in Narayanpet on Friday, marking a significant milestone in women’s empowerment. Speaking at the event, he emphasised that this initiative is the first of its kind in the country, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting women-led enterprises.
Addressing the gathering, CM Revanth Reddy stated that the People’s Government prioritises women’s welfare and development, ensuring they live with dignity and self-respect. He highlighted that Self-Help Groups (SHGs) were revived soon after the government assumed power, with 67 lakh women actively participating in these groups across the state.
Encouraging Women Entrepreneurs
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s vision to create one crore women millionaires in Telangana by providing opportunities across various sectors. He noted that:
- Women SHGs already own 600 RTC buses under government schemes.
- Plans are underway to establish 1,000 MW solar power plants with women-led ownership.
- Marketing facilities have been provided through stalls at Shilparamam to promote products manufactured by women’s SHGs.
Support and Welfare Measures for Women
As part of ongoing welfare initiatives, CM Revanth Reddy announced that two sarees would be gifted annually to each woman member of SHGs. He assured that the sarees would be of high quality, emphasising that all women, irrespective of rural or urban backgrounds, would be treated equally under government schemes.
The Chief Minister also expressed willingness to seek central government funds if needed for further women’s development programs. He appealed to BJP MP DK Aruna to support the state’s efforts in securing central assistance for such initiatives.
Women’s Role in School Development
CM Revanth Reddy urged women’s groups to take an active role in maintaining government schools and assured state funding for the same. He emphasised that schools should be maintained with the same reverence as temples, underscoring the importance of quality education.
