Yadadri power plant to be dedicated by January 15, says Bhatti

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday said the 4,000 MW Yadadri power plant would be dedicated to the nation by January 15, 2026.

Speaking at Praja Bhavan during job letter distribution for land losers, Bhatti blamed the previous rulers for stalling the project. He said they ignored works for two years after the National Green Tribunal stayed environmental clearances in October 2022. “Even a day’s delay in such a massive project costs Telangana heavily,” he said.

Fresh clearances, daily monitoring

Bhatti noted that after Congress came to power in December 2023, it held fresh consultations in February 2024 and secured new clearances. Since then, officials have tracked the works daily with a strict weekly calendar. Two units are already running. Coal supply lines, worker townships, and road links are also taking shape.

He assured that CSR funds would provide free education and healthcare in villages near the plant. Each mandal will get an ambulance. The government has sanctioned CC roads, flyovers, and land acquisition for new routes.

Yadadri power plant to be dedicated

Bhatti rejected opposition claims that Congress failed in the power sector. “Congress means current, current means Congress,” he said. He recalled how the party imported machinery from Japan in 1978 to launch pumped storage. He contrasted this with the Bhadradri sub-critical plant, calling it a “disaster” by the previous regime.

Bhatti said the government spends ₹17,000 crore annually to give free power to 29 lakh pump-sets and 51 lakh families. Despite this burden, he said, supply remains uninterrupted. He called the decision to give jobs to land losers a “humanitarian step.” So far, 500 families have gained employment, which he said would boost their social and economic progress.
