Y S Sharmila alleges phone tapping by Telangana government

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y S Sharmila on Tuesday alleged that her phone and her husband’s were tapped by the then Telangana government. She claimed the surveillance was politically motivated and linked it to a larger conspiracy involving former Chief Ministers K Chandrashekar Rao and Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Speaking to reporters at Visakhapatnam airport, Sharmila said the phone tapping incident was real and that she personally heard one of the intercepted recordings. She referenced a recent public confirmation of phone tapping by Y V Subba Reddy to support her claims.

Sharmila demanded that Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu push forward the ongoing investigation into illegal surveillance practices. She alleged that both KCR and Jagan coordinated to undermine her politically and financially.

According to her, the surveillance was part of a wider effort to obstruct her political rise and intimidate her supporters during her attempts to launch a party in Telangana. She said she faced constant harassment and resistance, describing it as a systematic attempt to suppress her political activity.

Sharmila described the surveillance episode as only one part of what she termed a broader campaign of political anarchy led by both former leaders. She said the attacks targeted her personal and political standing and included threats to her associates.
