BJP, BRS supported BC reservations bill in Assembly but sabotaged it in Parliament, says Kadiyam
Hyderabad: Congress leader Kadiyam Srihari accused the BJP of obstructing legislation aimed at granting 42% reservations to Backward Classes (BCs) in Telangana, despite backing the bills in the State Assembly.
He alleged that while both the BJP and the BRS supported the reservation bills for BCs in local bodies, education, and employment sectors during Assembly proceedings, they failed to extend the same support in Parliament, where central approval is required for legal enforcement.
Kadiyam demanded that the bills be inserted into the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution to protect them from legal challenges. He charged both the BJP and BRS with deliberately misleading the public through diversionary tactics instead of facilitating constitutional backing.
He further stated that the BJP’s insincerity on BC reservations is now evident to the public. The Telangana government, he said, had framed the 42% quota based on findings from a caste census and received all-party backing in the Assembly.
With no response from the Centre, the State government has decided to stage a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, along with Telangana MPs, MLAs, and other public representatives, will participate in the demonstration.
