BRS slams BJP MP over ‘insensitive’ remarks on Chevella road accident

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Wednesday slammed BJP MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy for what it called “insensitive” remarks on the recent Chevella bus accident and the pending national highway project.

At a press conference in Telangana Bhavan, BRS leader P. Karthik Reddy criticised the MP for politicising the tragedy while families were still grieving. He said the previous BRS government had completed land acquisition and all formalities after the road was declared a national highway in 2021. However, he alleged that the Centre had still not begun construction.

Karthik Reddy: MP should blame Centre, not BRS

Karthik Reddy accused Vishweshwar Reddy of backing the Save Banyans group, which secured a National Green Tribunal (NGT) stay in 2023. He said the MP was falsely blaming the BRS for alignment delays when national highway routes are decided by Central engineers.

“How can an MP not know that?” he asked. “Is he holding his own government responsible for the delay?”

He mocked the MP’s claim that better roads cause more accidents. “By that logic, if there’s no food, there’s no hunger. If there are no buildings, HYDRAA can’t destroy them. And without electricity, no one would get shocked,” he said.

BRS says Congress failed to act in two years

Karthik Reddy also criticised the Congress government for inaction. He said although tenders and land acquisition were completed during BRS rule, the Congress had not submitted the project proposal to the Centre in the past two years.

Former MLAs Methuku Anand and Pilot Rohit Reddy echoed the criticism. They accused the current government of ignoring public safety and prioritising politics. Both leaders warned that they would organise a protest march from Tandur to Vikarabad if construction did not begin soon.
