Congress confident of victory in Jubilee Hills bypoll after exit poll boost

Hyderabad: The Congress Party expressed strong confidence of victory in the Jubilee Hills by-election, citing exit poll predictions in its favour. The party said it executed a coordinated campaign strategy and reached out to every section of voters in the constituency.

Congress last won the Jubilee Hills seat in 2009 when P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, son of the late PJR, secured victory. Since then, the party has failed to win the seat. In the previous Assembly election, Congress candidate and former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin lost to BRS candidate and late MLA Maganti Gopinath, despite polling over 63,000 votes. For nearly 16 years, Congress has not managed a win in this constituency.

Congress treats Jubilee Hills bypoll as a prestige battle

The by-election, necessitated by Gopinath’s death, turned into a prestige contest for the ruling party. Although Congress formed the government after the last Assembly elections, it could not secure any seat within the Greater Hyderabad area. The party later won the Cantonment bypoll but lost the Secunderabad Parliament seat narrowly. Congress candidates also lost in Malkajgiri and Chevella Lok Sabha constituencies, both part of the Greater Hyderabad region.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan guided the campaign. TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka implemented their strategy on the ground. The leadership assigned ministers to specific divisions and deployed MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and key corporation chairpersons to strengthen outreach.

Revanth Reddy led roadshows, while ministers and senior leaders conducted extensive door-to-door campaigns. Mahesh Kumar Goud supervised surveys and ensured systematic execution of the party’s poll strategy. The campaign highlighted the government’s welfare and development initiatives across Hyderabad. Party leaders estimated voter turnout at around 50 percent.

Exit polls boost Congress morale

Exit polls after the voting projected a Congress victory, giving party workers a major morale boost. Senior leaders said a win in the Jubilee Hills by-election would energize the cadre ahead of upcoming local body polls and reinforce Congress presence in the Greater Hyderabad region.
