Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) spokesperson Bandi Sudhakar Goud on Monday warned that former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and former irrigation minister T. Harish Rao will face jail and not bail in the Kaleshwaram corruption case.
Addressing the media, he said the CBI probe ordered by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was an extraordinary step by the Congress government. He claimed that KCR’s family looted ₹1 lakh crore through the project and asserted that the state government would recover the money under the Revenue Recovery Act.
Congress claims united fight against Kaleshwaram scam
Sudhakar recalled that during the Assembly polls, Revanth Reddy had assured the people of Telangana that action would be taken on the issue. He said AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar, along with MLAs, MLCs and senior Congress leaders, had fought unitedly against Kaleshwaram corruption.
He questioned why KCR and Harish Rao approached the courts for a stay if they were innocent. “By rushing to court instead of answering the people, they exposed their own corruption,” he alleged.
‘Kaleshwaram a monument of betrayal’
Sudhakar said the collapse of Medigadda piers before the elections had exposed the scam. “Even if people tolerated it, nature itself could not. That’s why the pillars collapsed just before the polls,” he remarked. He added that the project, once hailed as world-class, had become a monument of betrayal by KCR’s family.
He demanded that KCR and Harish Rao resign immediately and apologise to the families of Telangana martyrs. He further alleged that the BJP was shielding the BRS in the corruption scandal. “Both are secret allies helping each other in shady deals. The people of Telangana must recognise this truth,” he said.
