Hyderabad: The Telangana Legislative Assembly and Council adjourned to Sunday after passing condolence motions for Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath and former MLC Magam Ranga Reddy.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy moved the resolution in the Assembly with the Speaker’s approval. He recalled that Gopinath had been politically active since his student days. Gopinath began his career with the Telugu Desam Party in 1983 and led its youth wing, Telugu Yuvata, from 1985 to 1992.
Revanth Reddy on Maganti Gopinath legacy
Revanth noted that Gopinath served as a director in the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority from 1987 to 1988. Between 1988 and 1993, he worked as a member of the District Consumer Forum. An ardent admirer of N.T. Rama Rao, Gopinath also entered the Telugu film industry and produced four films: Patabasti (1995), Ravanna (2000), Bhadrachala Ramudu (2004), and Naa Style Veru (2009).
The Chief Minister described Gopinath as a close friend despite political differences. He said Gopinath was elected thrice in a row from Jubilee Hills and earned a reputation as a “mass leader” despite his refined appearance. He expressed grief that Gopinath’s death had created an irreplaceable void for his family.
In the Legislative Council, Minister D. Sridhar Babu moved the condolence motion for Magam Ranga Reddy. After tributes in both Houses, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar and Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy adjourned the sessions to Sunday.
