Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Thursday adjourned to Friday the hearing on petitions filed by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and former minister T. Harish Rao. They sought cancellation of the Justice P.C. Ghose Commission set up to probe the Kaleshwaram project.
Senior Supreme Court advocate Aryama Sundaram, representing KCR, argued that the commission failed to follow established procedures. He told the court that authorities did not issue notices properly and did not provide copies of the commission’s report to either petitioner.
Sundaram said the government avoided sharing the report officially and instead presented its contents through a PowerPoint presentation. He alleged that the report was designed to politically damage the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and its leadership. He also pointed out that the government released the report in a press conference and uploaded it online, yet ignored formal requests from KCR and Harish Rao for copies.
Kaleshwaram commission petition raises questions over report disclosure
Advocate General Sudarshan Reddy, appearing for the state, argued that the government had already shared the report with the media and uploaded it on official platforms. However, the Chief Justice noted that the copies submitted to the court were not legible.
The AG informed the bench that the government had set up a three-member committee to examine the commission’s findings and intended to present the report in the Assembly for debate.
The bench questioned why the government released the report to the public before legislative discussion, especially when both petitioners were sitting MLAs. It asked whether the government planned to act on the commission’s findings before or after the Assembly debate.
The AG sought more time to clarify the government’s stance. The High Court then postponed the hearing to the next day.
