Hyderabad: Congress will split its campaign focus next week between a five-day public outreach march in Telangana and a coordinated protest in Delhi demanding Parliamentary approval for the BC reservations bill.
The first leg of the ‘Janahita Padayatra’ will begin on Thursday in Parigi, Ranga Reddy district, and end on August 4 in Khanapur, Adilabad. State Congress president A. Mahesh Kumar Goud and AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan will lead the march, which includes community service events.
From August 5 to 7, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will lead a Congress delegation to Delhi to press for the bill’s passage. Ministers, MLAs, MLCs, corporation chairpersons, and senior leaders will camp in the capital for three days. A protest is scheduled at Jantar Mantar on August 6.
To mobilise turnout, the PCC has arranged a special train to transport the BC cadre from all districts. Each district will send a 50-member contingent. Congress MPs will seek an adjournment motion in both Houses on August 5 to initiate a debate on the issue.
Revanth Reddy confirmed to Mahesh and Meenakshi during a meeting at his residence that he will join the Jantar Mantar protest on August 6 and lead a delegation of AICC leaders and MPs to submit a memorandum to the President on August 7.
The padayatra will resume on August 8 after the Delhi events, continuing its second leg with more community service initiatives.
Separately, Mahesh and Meenakshi submitted a shortlist of candidates for nominated posts and party committee appointments, prioritising leaders under 50 who have worked for the party over the past five years.
